A RECAP OF STYLE X & KIMAC’S SS20 RUNWAY SHOWS FEATURING: ANNIE’S COUTURE, SMOCK ME & CHICAGO PLAYGROUND.
To kickstart New York fashion week 2019, Style X, a world-renowned fashion events company in collaboration with Kimac group hosted yet another fabulous fashion week show. The three- day event ran from the 5th to the 8th of September 2019. Most of the shows were held at Sony Hall, New York and it featured notable designers, musicians, and photographers like Annie Couture, Chicago Playground, Smock Me to say the least.
The first show kicked off at 4 pm on September 5th where the first designer to showcase their collection was Annie’s Couture. Annie Couture is a contemporary women’s wear designer that was founded by Anna Garbuzora in 2014. The brand is well known worldwide for creating chic, modest and sophisticated outfits and on the runway this year, Annie’s Couture stayed true to their name! Their 2020 Spring /Summer collection was everything and more, the designer used fabrics like denim, tulle, ruffles, tassels, and sequins to create a breath-taking collection. Each piece of clothing looked graceful on the models and showed how women can be sexy and modest at the same time. The collection was filled with loads of figure-hugging denim shorts/skirts, classy denim jackets, vibrant hooded denim dresses, denim play suits, mesh tops, fringed bags and tulle/fur-like jackets.
Our favorite outfit on the runway was a striking denim shorts that had a tulle skirt -like drape attached to it! At the bottom of the skirt, the designer attached some stunning fur pieces that ended up giving the skirt a ruffled effect we were in awe of. The short was paired with a bedazzled denim sleeveless top, a stunning feathered jacket and some uber-stylish, slightly ripped, thigh-high denim boots. The designer also ensured that all the models wore super-light nude makeup, although some models got to rock bold red lip looks. In the hairstyling department, Annie’s Couture let some models wear their hair in a low ponytail/bun hairstyle while other models added dreamy loose curls to their hair.
Following the Annie Couture showcase, Chicago playground also graced the stage later that day with their unique collection. The black-owned label founded by Rodnell ‘Kid’ Harris wowed the audience with their customized cardigans and jackets. In all the photos captured by our talented photographer, Micheal Thelusma a.k.a ‘Where’s Mike?’ you can see that the designer’s 2020 collection was filled with colorful and embellished varsity jackets, blazers, denim jackets and cardigans that can be worn by both sexes. The highlight of the show was when the designer walked out with the extremely popular model and public figure, Marcus Hayes.
The model wore a colorful leather varsity jacket that had the text ‘In Living Color’ written boldly behind it, the front of the jacket was also not left out! It was adorned with lovely drawings and texts. The entire collection was well-received and some of the pieces showcased by the designer had powerful and thought-provoking texts on them. The best one of the night was a sleeveless camo printed jacket that had the text ‘Black is Love’ printed on the back.
After Chicago playground’s presentation, the crowd was serenaded by a beautiful and super talented pop musician, Amada Holley. Amanda performed for a while and after her performance the audience got to see another black-owned brand’s collection called Smock Me. Smock Me is a contemporary and fun fashion house that specializes in creating super trendy, colorful and urban clothes. On the runway at New York Fashion Week this year, Smock Me did not disappoint, they showcased divine outfits that took us back to the 90s. The collection was greatly inspired by hip-hop, punk and 90s fashion and most of the women’s clothes gave the audience nostalgic feelings. The collection featured short-fitted dresses, colorful latex two-pieces, leather pants, and super-simple yet fun T-shirts. Smock Me’s showcase was ended on a good note as fans were treated to music from Blake Kelly, a popular music sensation who is also known as ‘Papi Gordo’.
